Disney University

I went to Disney University today and took Merchantainment, which is Merchandise Entertainment. Yep.

Ok, so, did you know that being drunk is a lot like being a Disney employee? I learned that signs of being drunk were being overly friendly and spontaneously singing and dancing. If that doesn't describe Disney employees I don't know what does.

At the Sketchers store there is a whole line of children's shoes that not only have sparkly rhinestones, but they also flash and have sparkly fabric and they are so great. There are like 10 different styles and they are like $34, which seemed  a little expensive because they are like doll sized, but they were very sparkly.

weep

I just realised I was laying on top of my keys, wallet, and lanyard with pins on it. That is how tired I am.

addendum to yesterday

So these carts are lined up all over the circle my apartment is in and more appear each day. I don't know why people keep stealing carts, but it's weird.

Yesterday at training we received leis in the main lobby and then danced a hula called the Houki Lao right in front of the main entrance. Not embarrassing at all...

Oh, and I ended up arriving to work an hour early yesterday, but my second bus only had one other person on it, and the bus driver, Fernando, sat by us and talked while sitting at the stop. His first girlfriend's name was Maria, fun fact of the day. I'm a bit sad I won't be taking the bus, but it takes too much time to wait for the second bus.

I keep getting up before the sun. I'm going to see so many sunrises. speaking of seeing things, there was a huge fire we could see off in the distance when I was coming home yesterday. There were ambulances and fire trucks coming from all directions, billows of black smoke were coming up, it was intense.

I am so tired

That doesn't even convey
Something like that...

Perfect

We saw fireworks at Cinderella Castle tonight, as well as the end of the Castle light show. Wishes is the fireworks show, and it is lovely, though a bit different than the old Wishes with Julie Andrews. It's Jimeny Cricket now.

I drove to Walmart and Super Target after training. I don't have my costume yet. I had to buy new shoes for it though because I'm getting my costume tomorrow.

You know what, you all have bits and pieces of what I did today, depending on whether you stalk me on Gowalla, Twitter, or I have left you random messages. I propose you put together those pieces and go, yes, Mary had a day.

One thing those pieces will not tell you is that I ate Tortino's pizza rolls for dinner. They were an impulse buy while at Target, I was on the phone and wandering in the frozen foods. If I had been in the movies who knows what I would've picked up. Quite good they were. Yoda I may be. Sleep I will do.

Traditions!

This is what I did today!

I went to the Traditions class at Disney University. It was super long, but now I'm officially a Disney employee with a Disney nametag that has my name and University of Nebraska on it.

We went under the castle.

I has to get up early in the mornings so I'm not gonna tell you anything else ever. HA.

Well, I ate cereal for breakfast, a grape Fanta at 3 for lunch, and a frozen french bread pizza thing for dinner. There, that's everything. :)

Today I got WiFi

I TALKED TO CHRISTINE ON GMAIL CHAT, AND I SAW JENNA AND ABBY AND LINDY. AND ALEJANDRO.

This will only be news for Sarah and Lyndsey, because Christine, Jenna and Abby were there and that sums up everyone that knows about my blog. BUT IT WAS A BIG DEAL.

It froze on this
I went to a pizza party tonight. We got our picture taken with Captain Hook and Pirate Mickey.

Those are my roommates. And Pirate Mickey. She's not my roommate. I say she because Pirate Mickey was shorter than I am, so therefore it is most likely a she under there.

I live at Disney nowwwwwww

Alright, so yesterday was the big day of moving in and being all, omg I’m moving to Disney. That’s assuming that I get wifi working today so I don’t post this tomorrow. Wednesday, the 26th, was the big day.

Showed up at Vista Way apartments at 9 and stood in lots of lines to sign in and stuff, got an apartment key to a two bedroom, four people apartment in Patterson Court, and then took a bus to Casting at which point I never saw my parents again because Casting takes forever and they had a plane to catch. At Casting we saw lots of people just showing up to apply to work at Disney. It was kind of funny because there were over 200 of us being all, we are working here now, and they were like, waiting in line, trying to apply.

Yeah, so, officially working in Merchandise at the Polynesian. Still don’t have my nametag or costume; I’ll get the nametag tomorrow when I take Traditions, and the costume Saturday and/or Sunday when I go to train both days at 8:30.

Today I have a meeting about Housing at 9:45 at the Commons, which is an apartment complex near here, but I don’t know exactly where so that will be fun. My roommates had the same meeting last night, so I’m walking alone today.

ROOMMATES: they are very nice. Three girls who know each other from school, someplace in Indiana.

---------------

So, this morning we had a housing meeting, it was boring, rules, what, stuff, ah, but in the room there are these giant, cheesy pictures of cast members posing, or characters or whatever, and one of them, in the center of the presentation area, was Sassy Gay Friend making a kid laugh with his lifeguard whistle. His nametag said Vanessa… but it was definitely Sassy Gay Friend.

Batman and Superman being friends is really strange to me.

I miss my interwebs.

My roommates are all gone. I don’t know where they are. Gone gone gone.

I ate crackers with melted cheese for lunch. And chex mix stuff. And now I’m watching Superman try to beat up this robot thing with kryptonite in it. Batman’s gonna save him any minute. Yep, there he is. SUPERMAN IS GOING TO DIE!

It’s weird because Superman is dressed as Superman, and Batman is dressed as Batman, but they call each other Bruce and Clark. Actually, Batman never calls Superman anything, so I don’t even. They are now supporting each other and talking about their favorite villains. They are besties.

DON’T KILL BATMAN YOU BITCH.

You know how I feel about Batman.

DAMN CAPTAIN MARVEL. WHO EVEN IS HAWK MAN?

Aw, Superman was just like, “that was my best friend, and you just killed him,” and now we’re all *weep* about Batman.

YEAH, BATMAN’S OKAY!

I have no wifi yet

So here's a picture I took of the foot of my bed. I will write more about today on my computer and then just post it when I have wifi.

25 January 2011

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Tomorrow I move into the apartments and get my orientation information and all that jazz from Disney. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

So, this is me, not freaking out. O.O

Today it rained bunches. It was like, WALL OF RAIN! BAM. What? It's not raining. LOLJK IT'S RAINING SO MUCH IT'S LIKE YOU'RE DROWNING.

We ate dinner at T-Rex, which is like Rainforest Cafe, but for dinosaurs instead of rain forest animals. Every fifteen minutes there's a meteor shower and all the dinosaurs freak out. We ate inside the ice cave, so it was all blue most of the time, except when everything was on fire, then it was red.

No ice cream today. I noticed that almost all the other posts were like, "I ate ice cream." Yesterday's ice cream was especially good, from Ghirardelli's in Downtown Disney, but there was no ice cream today.

What else did I do today? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Christine knows, she stalks me super much. :)

Um, we took the monorail to the Polynesian to check out where I possibly am working, problem is that there are 4 stores, plus an art gallery thing, and a booth thing, so I have no idea. They pretty much all have Hawaiian print, but the art gallery is non costumed, and some of the stores have dresses while other had pants and a Hawaiian shirt, so I DON'T KNOW. (Picture me as David Tennant, newly regenerated, answering the Sontarans as they ask me who I am.)

We also drove around so I could figure out where things are compared to my apartment. Went to an outlet mall, which has a million and five stores. Got my car washed, because it was absolutely filthy from the snow and stuff on the drive here. It of course got rained on later, but it is a lot cleaner.

OMG I JUST FIGURED OUT I CAN PUT GIFS IN, I'M TOTES ABUSING GIFS FROM NOW ON, INCLUDING IN THE PAST OF THIS POST!

24 January 2011

I WENT TO HARRY POTTER WORLD

I went to Islands of Adventure today, which contains Harry Potter World. At the same time Sarahsarah was all in IRELAND, so I wore my Ireland shirt, as I explained to Christine, in remembrance of my dear departed roommate.

HOGWARTS IS BEAUTIFUL. I has pictures, but they are on my phone, not on my computer, so here they will be in the future:

PICTURE PICTURE PICTURE

Also, I likes rollercoasters.

Hey hey, did Dan Brown break up with Danielle? She doesn't appear to be in his vlogs anymore, but I didn't see why ever. I like how I ask y'all as though this is like, a conversation. BUT YOU ARE MY FRIENDS, YOU SHOULD KNOW THESE THINGS.

I don't remember anything else. I ate ice cream. Also, children everywhere. They are frightening.

Also, Brazilians have less personal space than we do.

23 January 2011

Mary goes to Sea World

HELLO Y'ALL!

Sarah is gone forever now. :(

I went to Sea World today, hence the title of this post. It was fun. It opened at 9, so we got there at 8:07, and of course the parking lot didn't open till 8:30, so that was fun.

I should warn you now, if you don't care about things that are really not important, don't read this. Important bits are summed up in these words: manatee fart, sideways rollercoaster and baby killer whale.

Also, I ate ice cream with caramel sauce.

Yeah, so, manatees, they're funny. They stay under water forEVER and jam themselves into walls and under rocks, eventually coming up to breathe, and then going back down immediately. Also, while they're underwater, when they fart little bubbles come up and when they reach the surface it smells really bad.

The Shamu show doesn't appear to showcase any whale named Shamu, unless that is their last name. Do whales have last names? Tina the whale had a baby they named Machaio or something and it's super adorable. It followed her around the entire show, kind of mimicking her tricks, being generally adorable.

There are only 2 rollercoasters at Sea World, the Kraken is okay, but the Manta is super awesome and awesome and unique. And awesome.

Also, it is like, 9 pm, and the room is dark and my father is sleeping and Mamma Mia! is on the television and I go MR DARCY in my head every once in awhile.

22 January 2011

Last driving day

HELLO Y'ALL!

We're driving again. On the road again *singing* la la lala la on the road again.

ANYWAY, you missed it last night. We were at the gas station next to our hotel and were going to drive right next door, but there was no road to the hotel so we ended up driving in a cemetery for awhile. It was fun.

----------------

Christine informs me it is Saturday, which is news to me. Happy Saturday.

---------------

We just passed a sign for a Pain Clinic. My dad was like, Mary, your favorite, and my mom was like, yeah, but you do that for free. They probably charge a lot.

---------------

We ate lunch at Steak and Shake. It was yummy.

Forgot to tell you, we're in Florida now. It got much warmer once we got to Florida, and it's really sunny. Also, windy.

We're on the Ronald Reagan Turnpike.

Apparently places like to "bare all" because there are all sorts of billboards for awkward places. End of story.

---------------

We are now on Disney property, kind of. We entered the territory of Disney, but we are staying at a Holiday Inn right by Downtown Disney. We just walked around Downtown Disney, didn't buy anything, danced to a little Bieber music (omg!!1!11!), and came back to our room to rest (aka get on the computer) until we go pick up my cousin, Melissa, for dinner. We don't actually know how to get to the apartment that she lives at, so we're totes gonna get lost, but that's exciting.

----------------

I told Christine a story that made her laugh at me, would you like to  hear it? So we went out to dinner, and my mommy spilled an entire glass of pepsi on my lap, which was really cold and wet. I sat on an ice cube without realizing it for like a year. I realized that all the clothes that I own were in the van, however, so I got another pair of jeans and changed. Sigh.

My cousin told me that she looked in the special directory to see where I will be working. I am apparently In the gift shop at the Polynesian Resort, which is a really nice hotel that has two restaurants, one of which has really good bread pudding. Also, two gift shops, so I'm not sure which I'll be in. Also, I don't know this officially, but I believe Melissa.

Second day on the road, it's gonna be a long one

It's super cold in the car.

----------------

There have been several traffic jams now. Apparently people in Tennessee don't know how to drive in snow. Several cars have just driven right off the road, it's weird.

Also, a whale killing company truck who can't spell "sea" was in front of me, but then drove on the shoulder to avoid the traffic jam. lame.

-----------------

We ate food for lunch. I am still sitting in a car. We're listening to Around The World in 80 Days, which is stressful for me somehow, despite knowing that they will, in fact, make it around the world, in 80 days.

Me blogging while traveling is not very interesting, but I really don't have much to do. I don't have anything to do actually. I could play pokèmon on my computer, but there's no internet of course, and the battery would eventually die and I would weep.

------------------

I just drove for 2 hours. Much of it was in mountains, so I was stepping on the brakes so I wouldn't be speeding down the mountain. I took us to Dairy Queen and we got Blizzards, and I made my dad drive so I could eat mine. :)

Would you like me to quote Tchaikovsky Discovers America for you? We're listening to it now, and I apparently have it memorized. "I saw his ship sail into New York harbor that day in 1891, past the Statue of Liberty, past the hundreds people cheering on the shore. All America seemed to be waiting for him, and for his music. How could I know that he would also change my family's lives, forever."

Now they're playing Tchaikovsky music in ragtime. I want to play music in ragtime. It's fun.

--------------------

It's like 8 here, we passed the time zone line thing, and we're almost to our hotel. We stopped at Chick-fil-A about 2 hours ago for dinner, but I wasn't very hungry due to inactivity all day.

Listening to Lion King NO KING NO KING LA LALA LA LALA. So that's fun.

Looking forward to going to the Festival of the Lion King so freaking much.

Goodnight y'all.

I'm gonna say y'all from now on, okay?

20 January 2011

wat even

We're driving.

There's lots of snow, some cars, a road, and, oh look a guardrail. It's silver.

In actuality we just passed Nebraska City, and are somewhere in Iowa.

I'm afraid I forgot something at home. Hmm. Never to be seen again

Missouri now! I'll edit this post later, you know, once something happens...

----------------

We just stopped for the first time since leaving, 3:30, and there was this kid working at the gas station that like, stared at me, and it was cold, and I talked to Sarahface for like a second on gmail chat.

----------------

We ate dinner in St. Louis, and it's super dark now, but my dad is like, "We could drive around the slums here in St. Louis. They're supposed to have the best slums here." Of course I brought up the fact that it's dark and we should keep driving to get to our hotel, but he just goes, "Slums are better in the dark! We could see them in action!"

18 January 2011

I have one full day left before I leave, do you think I've packed?

Good news: I have packed some.

Bad news: I have not packed nearly enough.

I have a box of t-shirts, a box of books and things that are not clothes, and a box of cleaning/bathroom things.

But it's all good.

I leave Thursday, it is Tuesday night, I only have tomorrow to pack, so, I'm pulling an all nighter where I don't tell my parents I stayed up packing and then miraculously get everything done on time.

This is where I'm live blogging Disney guise. Read this or get left out of the loop.

Do you want me to start with the lunch thing now? I had a chicken taco and noodles for lunch. Aren't you glad you know that now?

I am sitting on a couch.

Edit: all nighter here means, I will eventually go to bed, but kinda super late. *end clarification*
